Surfers travel from across the world to visit the Riviera Nayarit for its terrific year-round surfing conditions. Low season (May – October) is said to be better for beginners, while the intense waves of high season attract experts and professionals. While not primarily a surf town, La Penita has some surf shops with sales and rentals of surfboards, gear, and surf lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skill levels. Normally, reservations aren’t needed for instruction, since many locals are willing to give impromptu lessons, but sometimes scheduling lessons is required.
